American Idol Charity Broadcast

American Idol teams up with Bono and an all star line up for a special charity broadcast event

Who would have ever thought they'd see the day that Bono, Bob Geldof, Borat (Sacha Baron Cohen), Annie Lennox, Michael Buble, Pink, and Simon Cowell would get together for the benefit and not the detriment of all human kind

Well it's not that hard to believe when learning that American Idol will produce a large scale charity broadcast event this coming April when Idol Gives Back.

The idea for the epic event came off the back of the $820 million success that collaborations between American Idol and Red Nose Day produced.

The star spangled Idol show will run over two consecutive nights. And the actual singing competition itself will provide the material means for most of the fund raising. The top six finalists will perform uplifting songs, encouraging life and focusing on hope and compassion.

As audience members vote for their favourite finalists, Idol sponsors Coca-Cola and AT&ampT will make cash donations to charities dedicated to ending poverty in Africa, Ford will also make donations through its weekly music video, and viewers will be encouraged to call up and make cash donations during the show.

Celebrities will perform and feature throughout both episodes. And there are unconfirmed rumours that Bono himself might even make an appearance.

The Idol Gives Back special will also include video of host, Ryan Seacrest's trip to Africa, as well as footage taken of Simon Cowell, Ryan Seacrest, Paula Abdul and Randy Jackson in response to the Hurricane Katrina disaster.

The nominated charities that will benefit from the American Idol Charity broadcast, Idol Gives Back, include UNICEF the Charity Projects Entertainment Fund Nothing But Nets Save the Children the Global Fight to Fund AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria and Malaria No More.
