Drew Barrymore named Ambassador Against Hunger

The World Food Programme recently announced that Drew Barrymore has been officially named Ambassador Against Hunger.
Drew became a World Food Programme (WFP) celebrity partner in 2005 when she travelled to Kenya to witness first-hand the kind of hunger and medical problems that the Country’s poor people had to endure.
The announcement of her Ambassadorship came as she recently returned from a second trip to the region to visit school feeding projects supported by the WFP.
The 32-year-old esteemed Hollywood actress was
honoured and humbled
in her speech, accepting the WFP honour.
She will join WFP Executive Director, Josette Sheeran, in Washington to raise awareness for school feeding programmes and to advocate for new legislation in Congress.
In 2006, through school feeding programmes, the WFP reached 19.4 million children in 71 countries. But efforts still remain high in demand.
The WFP is ‘the food arm of the UN’, meeting the world’s emergency needs, supporting economic and social development and providing logistics support to enable distribution. The WFP helps victims of natural disasters and the world’s displaced, hungry and poor.
Drew’s new appointment as a World Food Programme Ambassador Against Hunger is just the latest event adding to her popularity as a well adjusted and loveable leading lady.
