World renowned Spanish opera singer Placido Domingo and opera diva Katherine Jenkins performed in Athens, Greece to raise funds to aid the conflict in Darfur.
The 66 year-old tenor and maestro, who celebrated 40 years in opera last month, sang with Mezzo Soprano Katherine Jenkins and the ERT State Symphony Orchestra, under the conduct of Eugene Kohn.
The concert, which was held to aid the children of the ongoing and much publicised humanitarian crisis in the Darfur region of western Sudan, was organized by Medecins Sans Frontieres/Doctors Without Borders. Read on…

Prince Charles visited the eco-friendly charity Roots and Shoots recently to open their new eco-building, which is available for hire in London.
The Prince was shown around the wild gardens of the charity’s grounds by Roots and Shoots officials, and watched in awe as local children drew pictures of insects that flourish within the surrounding fauna. Read on…

Reports suggest that charity gambling in Norway has been ordered to an end by government officials, in an attempt to tackle an explosion of gambling addiction.
Charities, such as the Red Cross and the Norwegian Cancer Society, will have to find other ways to fund raise when gambling is taken over by the Norwegian state government, who have declared a monopoly on all slot machines, and have given volunteer groups, humanitarian organizations and sporting clubs until July 1 to remove their machines from the state’s bars, supermarkets, airports, gas stations and other locations. Cast members from the 42-year long-running TV saga Days of Our Lives are volunteering their time to get involved in a charity event in the US.

Vodafone McLaren Mercedes racing driver Lewis Hamilton has sold his go-kart in a charity auction on eBay.
Bidding closed at £42,100 on June 19, for F1 driver Hamilton’s Vodafone McLaren Mercedes go-kart.

Six people died in a charity event tragedy, originally held to benefit Cars For Kids.
Texas based Brisbane born drag-car racer, Troy Warren Critchley, crashed into a crowd of spectators at the Cars For Kids drag racing charity event in Tennessee, killing six people.
The Pro Mod driver Critchley, who has raced in the US since 1998, suffered minor injuries, and was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.

One thousand dollars of money raised for charity, by dedicated school kids was recently stolen.
On a school weeknight, thieves broke into the principal’s office at St. John the Baptist School in St. Louis, Missouri, a Catholic Elementary School with students ranging from pre-school through to eighth grade.
The crooks made off with over a thousand dollars of charity money, whilst also crushing the eager spirits of the students who had worked hard in raising the funds.
However, in a small turn of fate, the day after the robbery, Liam Stacey, a seventh grader who had been soul struck by the school’s misfortune dipped into his own pocket money and donated a little more than four hundred dollars of cash. Read on…

Hugh Grant has donated an annual scholarship of £12,840 to his former school, Latymer Upper School, inspired by his late mother, Fynvola Grant.
Mr Grant, a graduate of Oxford University, made the decision to set up the scholarship after visiting the school in March this year.
Adding weight to his decision was the fond memory of his mother who had taught children in West London state schools for 30 years but died of pancreatic cancer in 2001. Read on…

Richard Branson, Ewan McGregor and Charlie Boorman took a ride through Africa’s dirt tracks on the weekend, to deliver a first batch of motorcycles to Africa, for the Riders for Health charity.
The motorcycles will enable villages and small communities in Kenya to access seriously needed medical support and supplies.
