Richard Branson, Ewan McGregor and Charlie Boorman took a ride through Africa’s dirt tracks on the weekend, to deliver a first batch of motorcycles to Africa, for the Riders for Health charity.
The motorcycles will enable villages and small communities in Kenya to access seriously needed medical support and supplies.
Fund raising was done to purchase the Honda C10 motorcycles, through Branson’s billion dollar Virgin enterprise, Virgin Atlantic.
Airborne Virgin Atlantic staff encouraged customers to get on board, while on board, and donate to the appeal, which was an amazing success bringing in more than £150 000.
Tens of thousands of Virgin Atlantic customers and staff have helped raise money to bring these bikes to Africa.
The first of the 31 motorcycles purchased through the Virgin charity initiative will allow a team of healthcare workers to reach rural communities and people in remote areas.
But this won’t be the last we’ll see of the three larakin adventurers, who just delivered the motorcycles to Africa. Richard Branson has been a marathon contributor to charity programmes in Africa and the world over; and Ewan McGregor and Charlie Boorman have just embarked on a journey, Long Way Down, in aid of Riders for Health, which will is soon to be televised.
