‘Speed Racer’ Attracts PETA Protest

Speed Racer didn’t do as well as expected on opening weekend, which may or may not have had anything to do with a PETA protest boycott of the film.
The $100 million Watchowski brothers movie starring Matthew Fox and Emile Hirsch attracted PETA’s attention early on when the decision was made to use animals rather than CGI animation.
The Watchowski and Warner Bros were approached by PETA about the matter but went ahead with the production using chimpanzees.
There were later repoerts of animal abuse which led to the boycott.
PETA will continue the protest boycott of Speed Racer for future film animal safety sake, with a PSA presented by Angelica Houston to explain why.
