Boston Red Sox slugger David Ortiz's charity softball match in the Domincan Republic

Here's David Ortiz at a charity softball game he organized in Santo Domingo for the Robert Reid Cabral Children's Hospital.

Nearly 1 percent of children born in the Dominican Republic have some sort of birth defect that requires surgery.

Ortiz gave a check for $200,000, enough to start the first pediatric cardiovascular unit in the Dominican Republic.

The Red Sox Foundation matched funds, and fans, corporate sponsors, and players made up the rest.
