'Vampire Diaries' heartthrob Ian Somerhalder wants something a bit different for his birthday, he wants us to support the Ian Somerhalder Foundation.

Opposite to his character in the TV series, the actor has a heart for animals and the environment and hopes to help both by rounding up support through the foundation.

Instead of birthday gifts, the actor would like fans and supporters to donate funds to the foundation so Somerhalder can "help our planet and our furry friends".
