Fatalities are being counted in the hundreds, expected to reach a thousand due to Japan's sudden and terrible earthquake and tsunamis.

Shocks from the 8.9 scale quake could be felt as far as China, and after effects have seen Hawaii take a battering from the powerful tsunamis.
