There are certain diseases where early detection remains the best chance of beating the disease.  Breast cancer is a case in point.  According to the National Breast Cancer Foundation, when breast cancer is detected early and hasn’t spread to anywhere else in the body, the 5-year relative survival rate is 99 percent.

Sadly, awareness is still poor among the general population which is why a nonprofit group called Women Rock, Inc is at forefront of raising awareness of breast cancer.  One of their annual initiatives is the Susan Hicks Memorial Event 5k,10k, & fun run races.
