Follicular lymphoma is a type of non-Hodgkin lymphoma, a cancer that affects the lymphatic system. It is characterized by the abnormal growth of B-lymphocytes, a type of white blood cell, in the lymph nodes and other parts of the body. Follicular lymphoma often develops slowly and may not initially cause noticeable symptoms, leading to a delayed diagnosis. Over time, however, symptoms such as swollen lymph nodes, fatigue, night sweats, and unexplained weight loss may manifest. Although considered an indolent or slow-growing lymphoma, follicular lymphoma can be a chronic condition that requires careful monitoring and personalized treatment approaches to manage the disease effectively.
In the pursuit of better outcomes and support for individuals with follicular lymphoma, the Follicular Lymphoma Foundation has emerged as a dedicated organization. The foundation focuses on raising awareness, funding research, and providing resources to empower patients and their loved ones in their journey with this complex disease.
As part of their efforts to make a meaningful impact, the Follicular Lymphoma Foundation presents Cycle Portugal 2024. This thrilling cycling event offers participants an incredible opportunity to embark on an unforgettable adventure while raising funds to support research, education, and advocacy for follicular lymphoma.
Cycle the length of Portugal! This classic journey follows the fabled N2, Portugal’s answer to Route 66, for over 700km from historic Chaves in the north to Faro in the sunny south.
This extraordinarily scenic ride takes us through terraced vineyards and fields of olive and cork trees, along river-banks and over winding hills with sweeping valley views. The undulating landscapes of the Alentejo, with its traditional white-painted houses, give way to the citrus orchards of the Algarve and the breeze of the Atlantic Ocean.
With long days in the saddle offset by shorter ones, and the long, steady climbs rarely steep, this challenge ticks all the boxes – the epic achievement of pedalling the length of a country, at an achievable pace with a hefty dose of cultural discovery!
We have partnered with @discover.adventure who will ensure everything is organised for you throughout the eight-day challenge. We kindly ask our fundraisers to pay a £299 registration fee and have a minimum fundraising target of £3,900. The FLF will be here to offer lots of support and help throughout your fundraising.
