Steps For a Cure 5K 2026 Pancreatic Cancer Run

Join the Steps For a Cure 5K on May 31, 2026 to support pancreatic cancer research and early detection.

Pancreatic cancer is hard to detect early. Many people are diagnosed too late. This makes it one of the deadliest cancers. Project Purple works to fight pancreatic cancer. They fund research, support patients, and push for early detection to save lives.

To help continue this work, a special event is being held in honor of James DiGiovanna. The Steps For a Cure 5K will take place on Sunday, May 31, 2026 at 9:00 AM. It will be held at Heckscher State Park in East Islip, New York, or you can join virtually from anywhere. Participants can run or walk to support the cause.

Every step taken helps fund research and early detection efforts. It brings hope for better treatment and a future without pancreatic cancer. Register here to help fight pancreatic cancer and support life-saving research.

Lace up your sneakers and join us for the first annual Steps For a Cure 5K, honoring the incredible life and legacy of James DiGiovanna. Whether you’re running the paths of Heckscher State Park or logging miles in your hometown, you’ll be stepping toward a world without pancreatic cancer.

James was more than a community leader—he was “their Superman.” A beloved husband, firefighter, Ironman triathlete, car enthusiast, and founder of DiGiovanna Bros. Landscaping, James served with honor in the Great River Fire Department and the Islip Town Fire Chiefs Council. After being diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in January 2023, he fought courageously until his passing in January 2024.

This 5K event—organized by the DiGiovanna family in partnership with Project Purple—celebrates James’ legacy and raises critical funds for early detection and research toward a cure.
