All Hands provides an outlet for one of the most basic human drives – the drive to help people who are in need. Following a natural disaster there is often an outpouring of concern for those affected and a great deal of motivation to help people on the road to recovery. We harness that energy to bring positive change to a disaster affected community using volunteer labor. There is no minimum or maximum time commitment and you do not have to pay a participation fee to join our project.
Following severe flooding of August 2014 thousands of families across Michigan had their basements damaged, making them uninhabitable. Furniture, possessions, and more importantly the safety of the residents were at stake as mould set in throughout their homes. All Hands response team mucked, gutted and sanitized 401 homes across Detroit city and are now working hard to rebuild homes for those families who cannot do so themselves. All Hands Rebuild Team have completed 5 childcare centers and 3 homes so far and are looking for enthusiastic individuals to help with more sites.
You will be lead by experienced site supervisors and work amongst other volunteers from around the world. Here in Detroit the need is great and media interest is low so your hands are desperately needed. What we can offer is the rewarding opportunity to help affected communities that would otherwise be unable to recover independently. The work involved, insulating, fitting drywall, framing, and painting, requires no prior experience.
The only trait we ask for is enthusiasm and a willing to have fun. There is no specific time frame for volunteers to help, it could be one day or one month! As with all of our projects, we can provide accommodation and food for our volunteers, in addition to a safe, active and fun working atmosphere.
