This past Wednesday, Absolut Vodka unveiled its newest flavor- Absolut Boston.
That’s right, folks, we have our very own vodka flavor, and before you ask, no it doesn’t taste like the Charles. Absolut has decided that black tea and elderflower are the essence of Boston infused in vodka, and what a tasty city we are. To celebrate the launch of this new city flavor (Boston is the third, following New Orleans and Los Angeles), Absolut asked some famous Bostonians to jot down their favorite Boston moments on green monster-shaded tiles. These tiles were then assembled into a Wall of Pride, which will be on display in front of the Prudential Center from August 26th through September 4th, after which the tiles will be auctioned off and the profits given to the . Absolut and Horizon beverages (the Boston distributor of Absolut) have also agreed to donate a portion of the profits from the sale of the new vodka to the charity. You can see all of the tiles up close on the auction page, including translations for those hard-to-read tiles. One of the interesting things about Absolut Boston is the bottle – the green backdrop is meant to imitate the infamous Green Monster, After the unveiling of the wall, we headed over to on Newbury Street where Absolut Boston was properly introduced to us in the form of three different cocktails. This Bostonist was surprised at how tasty Boston is. This is a very mixable vodka that goes well with just about everything. We tried the Absolut Boston Home Run (vodka, white grape juice, and ginger ale) the Absolut Boston Mojito (vodka, lime juice, simple syrup, soda water, and mint leaves), and our favorite, the Absolut Boston Tea Party (vodka, lemon juice, and simple syrup). Specific recipes for these drinks and many others can be found on the Absolut Boston Facebook page.
Absolut spared no expense for this event. The food was delicious and Boston-themed (clam chowder, lobster bisque, mini ballpark franks, lobster rolls) served on a portion of the Stephanie’s patio and decorated with a wall of 72 bottles of Absolut Boston. The drinks were also huge, plentiful, and delicious. If you’re interested in trying an Absolut Boston cocktail but not interested in making it at home, the bartenders at Stephanie’s and have had the vodka on hand for a while (for testing purposes) and are probably the best qualified to make these drinks properly. So next time you’re going downtown for a drink, support your city and the Charles River Conservancy, and give Absolut Boston a try. See what your city tastes like.
