They were teammates a quarter of a century ago on the University of Akron teams that twice finished second in the NCAA Division II
national championship softball tournament. Neither the ravages of time nor expanses of geography have broken that feeling. ”The camaradarie that we had on those teams when we played at Akron was incredible,” said Traci Alcorn, a two-time Division II All-American for the Zips. ”And even though we all left about 25 years ago, the feelings for our teammates are still incredibly strong. ”We would do anything for each other back then. That’s what made us so successful. And we’d still do anything for each other.” Including dropping everything — job, family, weekend vacation — to return to the University of Akron to put on a softball clinic. There were bats, balls, drills and station rotations. But this was no ordinary clinic.
The clinicians weren’t paid. They donated their time, and paid their own expenses to get back to Akron. This was a clinic with a theme bigger than softball.
