CHARITIES have been bowled over by the fundraising efforts of this year’s It’s A Knockout.
The event, held by the Humberston North Sea Lions at Blundell Park in May, raised £22,000 for local groups. Based on the popular television show of yesteryear, teams battled it out on a series of obstacles in a light-hearted contest. Out of this money, £13,000 went to St Andrew’s Hospice, £5,000 to the Bottom’s up Appeal, £2,000 to the Mayor’s Charity Appeal, and £1,000 went to the Stroke Unit at the Diana Princess of Wales Hospital and the North East Lincolnshire Disability Sports Forum. Lion Paul Christoffersen said: “We’d like to thank all 38 teams for entering and making the day a huge success – but special thanks go to Grimsby Town Football Club for again allowing us to use Blundell Park and to the Grimsby Telegraph for the coverage they gave the event, bringing it to the public’s attention. “They both entered teams on the day and greatly enjoyed it with the rest of the competitors.” In total, the Lions have now raised £77,000 for worthy causes in the past four years – and are hoping to break the £100,000 barrier next year.
