Making First Aid Fun 2009: Residents Eager

Making first aid fun

RESIDENTS eager to get involved in saving lives are invited to a Fun Day at South Redditch Sports and Social Club on Sunday (August
30). The Redditch-based Community First Responder (CFR) team – everyday members of public who are trained life-savers – are holding the event to try encourage more volunteers to get involved, as well as raising money for equipment. From 3pm, visitors will be able to take part in a pub quiz, a free disco starting at 7pm, an auction offering lots including a free day’s labour from a builder and plumber, plus entertainment for the children including a fire engine. CFR’s will also be on hand to demonstrate what they do. Event organiser Simon Elms said: “Redditch has a population of nearly 90,000, but only three Community First Responders. “We’re looking for more volunteers, and will then have to equip them with tools and medical machinery which costs around &pound2,500 – that’s where this charity event comes in.” CFRs are often called on to visit a patient while the ambulance is en-route. To join, volunteers must be at least 18-years-old and have a full driving licence. No previous experience is necessary as training is provided. For more information about the event, call Simon on 07809 873152. For more on becoming a CFR, call Jo Mitton at the West Midlands Ambulance Service on 07817 516149.
