Try something new this Sunday, Aug. 30, at the Wisconsin Riverside Resort in Spring Green, with the Rhythm on the River celebration. The music and art fest will kick off at noon with a Family Canoe Adventure (call Friends of the Lower WI, 608-575-0325 to register), accompanied by special guests and swimming activities. The music will start at 3 p.m., featuring bluegrass with Mike Schmidt on the banjo, John Fabke on the mandolin, Barry Riese on guitar and Mike Cunningham on bass. The melody continues with Richard Blackhawk Kapusta and his band strumming it out at 6 p.m. To end things with a bang, a special fireworks display surrounding is sure to brighten up the dusky sky, in appreciation of the river.
