Entering day three of the World Poker Tour Legends of Poker event at the Commerce Casino in Los Angeles, Steve Begleiter is the current
chip leader. Begleiter ended day two on 426,000 in total chips which was some way ahead of second placed Prahlad Friedman who had 382,000. Just before play broke up for the day, Begleiter got himself involved in a huge pot with Isaac Baron. Begleiter had pocket fives on a 10-8-5 board and both players ended up all-in and Baron tabled pocket queens which didn’t improve and out went Baron. Meanwhile Prahlad Friedman moved himself into contention late on day two when he scooped a big pot when the blinds were at the 800-1600 level. Friedman called a re-raise of fifteen thousand from his opponent who was in the big blind. As it turned out, Friedman held pocket nines and the flop came J-8-5. The big blind led out for about twenty thousand or so and Friedman called. The turn brought a seven and both players checked. The river card was a nine making a set for Friedman and he made a bet of sixty thousand which was called. There are many notable names who are still in contention and flying high. Daniel Negreanu is still there on 92,000 and in 36th place. Another legend is Men “The Master” Nguyen who is currently in 22nd place on 143,000. With Greg Mueller, Adam Levy, Scotty Nguyen, Billy Baxter, Lee Markholt and Nick Schulman all in strong contention, it is shaping up to have several named players still active on the final table. The winner will have outlasted a field of 279 players but that isn’t anything to be afraid of for Steve Begleiter who is a member of the final nine that will travel back to Las Vegas to contest the $10,000 main event in November. Meanwhile this $10,000 event has a first place prize of over a million dollars with the second placed finisher taking home a cool $471,000. Surprisingly the numbers for this years event were down on last years but that still hasn’t detracted from an all star field.
