Family Tourney Swings Into Benefit 2009: Years Seeing

Family tourney swings into benefit

After years of only seeing relatives at weddings and funerals, the Windjack family came up with a gathering that was both fun and charitable.
On July 25, the Windjacks held a golf tournament at The Greens of Brock followed by a family barbecue to raise money for the Canadian Cancer Society. “We also honoured other family members who passed away,” she said. The Greens is owned by Ken Winjack, a cousin who donated use of the course to the family for the day. Thirtyfour people golfed while 50 attended the barbecue. “We only expected to raise $200, “but when we counted it up it came out to $900.” said Terri who along with her husband Dale Carter and brother and sister-in-law Jim and Lynn Windjack organized the event. Winners of games gave back their prize money to the cancer society, she said, choking back a sob. Her father worked at the Port Weller dry dock as an electrician on older ships that often had asbestos, she said.
Orrie Windjack also operated one of the first rental storage units in the area at his Turners Corners home.
