Runs with Bulls – Tampa Bay event recreates the world-famous Encierro of Pamplona using Tampa Bay’s all-female flat-track roller derby team, Derby Darlins, as
the bulls chasing local runners down 7th Avenue in Ybor City to raise funds for the Alpha House of Tampa on Saturday, October 3rd, 2009. The chase will begin at 9 a.m. at 20th Street and continue west on 7th Avenue to Centro Ybor. Participating runners will be given a head start before the release of the bulls – Tampa Bay’s Derby Darlins roller derby team. The all-female flat-track roller derby team will be on skates with foam bats to chase and prod the quick and brave runners to the finish line. “We were looking to create a unique and fun event for runners in Tampa Bay,” said Jim Torgler, Head Honcho, Runs with Bulls – Tampa Bay. “They wouldn’t allow us to run real bulls through Ybor City, so we asked members of Tampa Bay’s all-female flat-track roller derby team, the Derby Darlins if they would be our bulls. They jumped at the chance.” Come event day, the Derby Darlins will transform into Darlin Bulls, according to Torgler. “These gals will make sure everyone who participates has a good time.” To learn more about this event and register to participate as one of the quick and the brave visit .
