The spirit of is alive and well this week as cities across the nation celebrate the 40th anniversary of the Bethel, NY event that
took place from August 15 to August 18, 1969. And the phenomenon has spread world wide, with memorial gatherings taking place all over the globe. One of the most celebrated Woodstock-inspired events, the , took place earlier this month in Kostrzyn on the Oder, drawing an impressive crowd over three days, July 31 to August 2, 2009. Founded in 1995 by the Great Orchestra of Christmas Charity foundation, this year celebrated the 15th anniversary of the event that is touted as “the biggest open-air festival in Europe.” Mid-way through the weekend, the Euro festival debuted a “Special Anniversary Concert for the Years of Woodstock,” a nostalgic musical tribute to the original Woodstock festival. Featuring covers of music from Woodstock’s 1969 and 1999, it was a bold move that celebrated the milestones for the American and European festivals alike, as well as the true meaning behind Woodstock: bringing people together in the name of peace and music. All proceeds from the Przystanek Woodstock Festivals are donated in the form of medical equipment distributed to various Polish hospitals in need.
