THE new Babinda Harvest Queen likes to dress up and do maths.
Taleesa Keily, 17, could not be any prouder to be the small sugar town’s newly crowned ambassador. She won the title out of eight girls during the festival, which drew more than 2000 people, on Saturday night. “It’s great to be part of the community and you become good friends with the other girls and to uphold the community spirit of Babinda,” the aspiring accountant said. “It’s a fun event and everyone looks forward to and to dress up and be pretty.” Bridgette Atkinson, 17 was crowned Miss Personality and Zoe Crane, 17, as Miss Charity. Princess co-ordinator Natalie Satchwill said the girls had been fundraising since March and raised more than $19,000.
“It was an awesome night. We had fantastic participation and the parade was massive and even the rain didn’t dampen the spirits,” she said.
