This Week in Golf – May 28th through May 31st Philadelphia, PA (Sports Network) – PGA TOUR – CROWNE PLAZA INVITATIONAL AT COLONIAL, Colonial
Country Club, Fort Worth, Texas – This week's Crowne Plaza Invitational will be without its defending champion. Phil Mickelson is in the midst of a hiatus from the tour as he stays home to be with his wife, Amy, who was recently diagnosed with breast cancer. Mickelson birdied the 72nd hole last year to fend off Tim Clark and Rod Pampling for a one-stroke win. It was his second win at this event as he also won at Colonial in 2000. Without Mickelson, the event will not be without star power. Eight of the top-10 in the FedEx Cup standings, seven of the top-10 on the PGA Tour money list and four of the top-10 players in the world will all tee it up this week. There are also 11 players that have won this year on the PGA Tour. Along with that group, there are eight former Colonial winners playing this week as well as 17 former major champions. The Golf Channel has three hours of action on Thursday and Friday, before handing off to CBS for the final two rounds.
The PGA Tour shifts to Ohio next week for the Memorial Tournament, where Kenny Perry won by two shots last year. Perry joined Tiger Woods as the only three- time winners of this tournament. Woods has not announced whether he will compete at Muirfield Village.
