PV FHS Coaches Tee Up for Good Cause

May 24–FARMINGTON — Farmington green and Piedra Vista blue littered the Pinon Hills practice green Saturday in a familiar sight: a friendly competition between
rivals. A group of mostly coaches and athletics administration gathered for a scramble tournament to raise money for the San Juan Medical Foundation. San Juan Regional Medical Center chief therapist Steve Hathenbruck accepted the donation before the six foursomes took to the links. “This is a wonderful event. My heart goes out to those people that take of their time and their talents to do something that’s selfless and to be able to raise money on behalf of the cancer center,” Hathenbruck said. The golfers may have played for a good cause, but they didn’t forsake their competitive spirits. Several let slip some choice words after shanking a drive or lipping out a putt, words that would’ve earned technical fouls or ejections on the court or field. On the putting green before the competition, PV girls basketball coach Mike Christie rolled a golf ball at the feet of FHS track coach Randy Jackson, who was lining up a 10-foot putt. Jackson stuck out his foot to prevent the ball, which was off target, from rolling off the green and pushed his putt within four inches of the cup in one motion. “Steel trap,
that guy!” Christie joked, adjusting his Dallas Cowboys hat.
