Her father Sir Ralph Halpern was once one of the most successful clothes retailers in the country – the genius who founded Topshop and
rescued Burtons – but he will always be best remembered for his legendary prowess in the bedroom department. He was dubbed five-times-a-night Sir Ralph after his one-time teenage lover helpfully enumerated their encounters to the tabloids, and aged 61 he fathered a baby by his former secretary. Now his high-flying PR company boss daughter Jenny has presented him with twin granddaughters – but they have been born in unusual circumstances. For I can reveal that Jenny, 40, and her property executive husband Ryan Prince are currently adopting the twins after they were born by a surrogate mother in Ryan’s native Canada. Delighted: Jenny Halpern ‘It’s fantastic and we are delighted with our two little girls,’ Jenny shouts to me over a cacophony of wails, having flown out to Canada earlier this month to collect her new family. ‘We obviously have roots out here so we are going to be spending some time with family here before coming back to Britain.’
However, their delight has been slightly spoiled by the delays in finalising paperwork for the babies’ adoption, I am told.
