Family and friends vow to win Southport Charity Fun Fest in memory

FAMILY and friends of a Banks woman who died of breast cancer have entered this year’s It’s A Knockout competition at the annual Southport’s
Charity Fun Fest in her memory. Bill Abram and nine others will be taking part in the madcap event, which raises money for six local charities. It coincides with what would have been the 40th birthday of Bill’s sister Heather, who died in 2005, aged 36, after battling breast cancer for 10 years. The Abram family are planning a series of fundraising events to mark this milestone, including It’s A Knockout. The team, who have called themselves Heather’s Bandana Bandits, are hoping to walk away with first place at the event on Sunday, June 14 at Princes Park, Southport town centre, after narrowly missing out on the title last year. Bill, of Fleetwood Drive, said: “We did it last year and it was a great day. It was a good laugh so I thought I’d get a team together for this year. “Last year we came second and this year we hope to better that and claim first place, but we have some stiff competition with the likes of the JJB team competing against us.
“Getting involved in It’s a Knockout is a really fitting tribute to Heather. She was so full of life and she would be in her element in a competition like this.
