Etape Caledonia 2010 Registrations Up 600

IMG, organisers of the Macmillan Cancer Support Etape Caledonia, have announced that registrations for their 2010 event are selling more than six times faster
than at the same time last year. The event has dominated the news in recent days following an incident at the 2009 event, held on Sunday, halting the race and damaging a number of cyclists’ bikes. A 62 year man from the Kinloch Rannoch area has today been charged with Reckless Behaviour in relation to Sunday’s incident. The organisers went ahead with their plans to make entries for the 2010 event available online from 4pm on Monday 18th May and have so far collated entries for around 500 participants within the first 48 hours of going on sale. In their first full week of sales last year, the same figure was just 108 entries. If entries continue to fill up at this rate, the event will hit capacity very soon. The 2009 event hit a capacity of 3,700 participants and sold out in February 2009. Jo Dytch, event organiser with IMG, said “Following Sunday’s incident we were strong in our resolve to make next year’s event a continued success. It certainly seems that our participants feel just as strongly about supporting the event and are signing up as a result and places are filling up very quickly. This is indeed good news.” Organisers are urging people interested in participating in next year’s event to consider fundraising for Macmillan Cancer Support in 2010 and to sign up soon to avoid disappointment.
