May 5, 2009 Clyde Garden Club had its April meeting at the Clyde Library.
President Pat Gill thanked Carol Lobdell for hosting and opened the meeting by having the club recite the Garden Collect Pledge. She then read “Signs of Spring” by Bernice Maddux found in the Birds and Bloom magazine. Thirteen members answered roll call by naming their favorite rose and its color. Treasurer Peg Watt reported a March balance of $650.46. Program chairwoman Mary Jane Dawes announced Frances Sinclair will host the May meeting at the Clyde Library and Kathleen Giffen will give the program. She also reminded the club of the June trip to Scheidel Arboretum at Elmore. The club decided to honor Arbor Day later this year by planting lilacs at the McPherson house after the refurbishing work is completed. Bird committee chairwoman Pearl Schwochow spotted a brown thrasher and a white-crowned sparrow in her yard. She also read a clipping of a sighting of a Mountain Blue Bird at the east end of Oak Opening and on the fence at the west end of the Toledo airport. Conservation chairwoman Eilene Perry talked about a conservation project to plant a waterway.
Lobdell announced that five people would attend the Friday regional meeting in Fremont.
