While their families call them crazy, the long-time friends have decided to take part in this year’s Coleman Variety 4WD Challenge to help raise
money for the WA-based charity. One of only two all-female teams entered in this year’s challenge, Di Campbell and co-driver Coleen Pearce, from NSW, have borrowed Di’s husband’s Toyota and undertaken introductory 4WD training in a bid to have a successful experience. They’ve called themselves ‘Two Tarts in a Troupie’ and will set off on May 23, taking in the Gascoyne and Pilbara region, through the Canning Stock Route before finishing in Coral Bay. Ms Campbell said the pair saw the trek as an opportunity to combine exploring rural WA, raising funds for a worthy charity and spending some time together. “We decided it would be nice to spend some time together and get her to see the outback of Western Australia and raise some money at the same time,†Ms Campbell said. The requirement to take part involves raising $10,000 before leaving.
This Saturday, May 2, the ladies will host a cocktail party at the Golden Nugget Room in Gloucester Park. Tickets are $70 each and include entry, canapés and a cocktail on arrival.
