Raft Race Hit By Financial Crisis 2009: Target Cash

Raft race hit by financial crisis

Less than half the target cash has been raised for the Rotary Club of Salmaniya’s annual charity raft race, being held on Friday at
Al Bander Resort, Sitra. Twenty-two teams have entered, well short of the 30 organisers were hoping for. Fund-raising is now only half-way towards the initial target and unless there is an extraordinary donation between now and Friday, it is not likely the target would be reached, said Raft Race chairman Dr Steve Glykys. “We had been hoping to raise BD30,000. But we are only half way towards that at the moment. Dr Glykys said preparations were right on track for the annual event and finishing touches were scheduled to be tackled during a lunch meeting tomorrow. “Everything is almost 100 per cent ready to go now and we will be having a lunch at the Al Bander to put the finishing touches to the final details,” he said. “The raft race has always been a great family event and this year it will be no different.
“Entry is free and we are asking anyone who wishes to come along and enjoy themselves.
