STATEN ISLAND, N.Y.
— Founded in 1980 by Bill and T.J. Palmer, a husband and wife from Atlanta, Georgia, Applebee’s Neighborhood Bar & Grill has grown into an international restaurant franchise. Despite becoming one of the largest full-service restaurant companies with nearly 2,000 locations globally, that neighborhood concept hasn’t disappeared. Employees from the Island’s four Applebee’s locations have volunteered to cook and distribute the barbequed goodies to walkers at the charity event. The tent will be set up at the walk’s starting point in the northern portion of the Staten Island Mall parking lot in New Springville. At 9:30 a.m., participants will head north on Richmond Avenue into Bulls Head — passing one of the Applebee’s sites — before looping through Willowbrook and returning to the mall. Individuals and teams can still join the walk by going to registration/check-in at 8 a.m. For more information, call 718-981-3000 or visit marchofbabies.org. — Jamie Lee
