Bill and other officers started staking out the store at 6 a.m. for the police department’s annual Cops on fundraiser for the Special Olympics. Last year’s event netted $30,000 for the cause, police said. Officers camp on the roof of the store and reel down a bucket to customers for donations in exchange for coupons. Krispy Kreme also gives anyone who donates $5 to $20 to the a free glazed doughnut.
This is the for the fundraiser, which lasts until 11 a.m. Saturday. In addition to the Tampa store, officers will camp on the roof of two other Krispy Kreme locations, 2128 W. Brandon Blvd. in Brandon and 32130 U.S. 19 N. in Palm Harbor.
