CABO SAN LUCAS, Mexico – He left his home state of Kentucky but forgot his passport, and then his flight to Phoenix was delayed
by snow and he almost missed his connecting flight here. The trip might not have started the way Webb wanted, but it surely ended the way he and his K Foundation envisioned. The occasion was Webb’s signature charity event – Brandon Webb’s 2nd annual Celebrity Offshore Fishing Tournament, held last month in Cabo at the Pueblo Bonito Pacifica Holistic Retreat resort. “Charity golf tournaments are a dime a dozen,” Webb said. “The members of my foundation came to me with this idea, and once I heard it, I knew it would be a great event that was different than anything anyone else was doing.” The event hauled in $100,000 for critically ill children in the Phoenix area and created just about as many memories for those who attended. “I’ll tell you what, I am coming back next year, and I am bringing all of my friends,” said Chris Perry, 33, of Phoenix. “It’s an amazing weekend, and in the end it is all for the kids that Brandon helps out.” It wasn’t just Webb helping out this time around.
It was the celebrities (NBA Hall of Famer Rick Barry, former Diamondbacks slugger Adam Dunn, Diamondbacks catcher Chris Snyder and Boggs), the 20 patrons who paid $6,000 to be part of the weekend, the foundation and facilities.
