4th annual Rotary Chili Bowl is Saturday at Sherwood Forest Bowman said there will be two contests going on at the same time.
For people wanting to compete against chili cooks across the country, they have the right to participate in the major cook-off that is being sanctioned by the Chili Appreciation Society International (CASI). Sherwood’s cook-off is part of CASI’s nationwide chili cook-offs, which help the cooks earn points to appear at national competitions, Bowman said. However, for people who wish to compete against just locals, people can participate in the club’s chili bowl, which doesn’t have as many rules as CASI’s, Bowman said. The entry cost to cook chili is $20. There will also be a silent auction. The bowl’s proceeds go to benefit the Rotary Club and charities it supports. Bowman said the 2008 chili bowl earned the club $1,200. “We were trying to think of ways to raise money for the Rotary Club,” said Bowman, who said he and Sherwood’s Lee Church originally came up with the idea four years ago. The annual shows are getting more popular with each passing year. Do not post: If you believe that a commenter has not followed these guidelines, please use our online complaint form.
