Thursday, 19 February 2009 GKerrush KIND-HEARTED pupils at Cockermouth School have raised more than £16,000 for charity and they are so committed to helping
others that they have formed their own fund-raising committee. It held its first event, a pancake eating competition, last week and is planning more, starting with an Easter egg hunt for the younger pupils. The committee was set up after sixth formers Lauriane Harrington and Jessica Carey organised an event to raise money for breast cancer and decided that they wanted to develop their charitable work. Friends Simon McKendrey, Nefertari Boles, Simon Palmer and Sarah Jane Holmes got involved and the group now intend to raise money for various charities. Simon Palmer, better known as Sita, won the pancake eating competition, downing five pancakes in one-and-a-half minutes, without using his hands.
