The CFDA (Council of Fashion Designers of America) honored U2’s Bono, and wife Ali Hewson, as a special tribute to their humanitarian work through the eco friendly and everyday affordable clothing line, Edun.
Bono and Hewson didn’t attend the night, instead sending a video thank you message to the industry for supporting Edun’s mission to create a lifeline between the fashion world and the Third World.
Bono and Hewson started the line of Edun couture with designer Rogan Gregory two years ago.
Early this year, Edun also came out with an eco friendly line of clothing, using organic and recycled materials, less packaging and more energy-efficient manufacturing.
Other recipients of special awards at the CFDA were Ralph Lauren (presented by Oprah Winfrey), jewelry designer Robert Lee Morris, Washington Post fashion critic Robin Givhan and French designer Pierre Cardin.
A-list guests at the awards included Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen, Kate Bosworth, Heidi Klum, and Debra Messing.
The CFDA Fashion Awards, honoring Bono and Ali’s Edun clothing line, were hosted by Ellen Barkin and held in New York.
