Originating in the early 20th century, palliative care was initially rooted in the hospice movement, focusing on enhancing the quality of life for patients facing serious illnesses. Developed as a response to the evolving needs of those with life-limiting conditions, palliative care has become a holistic approach addressing physical, emotional, and spiritual well-being. Today, this specialized care provides comfort, relief, and support, acknowledging the importance of a compassionate journey for individuals and their families.
In commemoration of the rich history of palliative care, Rady Children’s Hospital-San Diego presents the 115th Anniversary Charity Ball – Starry Night. This event not only honors the origins of palliative care in the early 20th century but also symbolizes the ongoing commitment to enhancing the quality of life for children facing serious illnesses. Attendees can expect a celestial evening of compassion, fundraising, and support, contributing to the legacy of providing holistic care for young patients.
Chairman Bridgett Brown invites you to join us for a dazzling night of celebration and support as we dine, dance and toast to the elegant tradition of the Charity Ball.
Having started in 1909, Charity Ball is celebrated as San Diego’s oldest and grandest philanthropic event. Since 1954, Charity Ball has exclusively benefited Rady Children’s Hospital-San Diego. This year’s beneficiary is the Palliative Care Program, supporting children facing serious and life-limiting illnesses throughout the journey of complex, long-term care.
