Submitted by Rhonda Sauro • May 26, 2009 Liberty Idol Contest draws thousands of people as the first round of competition continues this Saturday.
Sixteen contestants will compete this Saturday as the audience votes for their favorites. The top prize is $2500 for first place in the 4th year of Liberty Idol. People are traveling from across the upstate of SC, Western NC and Georgia to watch the show. The Liberty Idol Contest (a thirteen week competition) held auditions for the first 4 weeks and 65 people were selected to compete. The first round continues this Saturday as the audience votes to determine the contestants who will make it through to the second round. Anyone can enjoy the show and has the opportunity to participate by casting their ballet. In order for a vote to be valid, each ballet must have five people circled as the best for the evening. It is FREE to vote and FREE for the contestants to compete. The audience also has an opportunity to win. This week Spinx is giving away a $100 Gas Card to someone in the audience and Mane Tamers is going to select someone to do a complete makeover (with the reveal at the end of the show). So far, over $1000 in cash and prizes have been awarded to people in the audience and the shows are just beginning. In 2008, over 50,000 people attended Liberty Idol. This year is pacing to exceed those numbers with an event that is family oriented, safe and fun for the entire community. On May 23rd, over 1500 people came out for Memorial Day weekend show. Those wishing to attend the concert can begin setting up lawn chairs at 2PM. There are different guest judges each week and this week Nicholas Bishop, 2008 Liberty Idol winner, is our Special guest judge along with Lisa Rollins from WORD.
