According to the United Nations, globally, “around 13 percent of food produced is lost between harvest and retail, while an estimated 17 percent of total global food production is wasted in households, in the food service and in retail all together.” What makes these numbers even more disturbing is around 783 million people go hungry worldwide, with 14 million children suffering from severe acute malnutrition. Imagine all those food going to waste while millions go to sleep without even having one proper meal a day. This is what Harvest for Hunger, a Seattle-based organization, is trying to address.

Harvest for Hunger’s mission is “To help feed hungry people with surplus nutritious produce, we: Connect farmers, transportation providers and food banks; Develop and share innovative hunger relief solutions; and, Engage the public in hunger relief.” To help achieve this mission, they’ll be having Hearts & Wine 2024 at Sodo Park by Herban Feast on March 1. Proceeds from this event will go to funding the different programs of the organization.

Harvest Against Hunger’s signature event is coming! Our 2024 event will be held at Herban Feast’s beautiful Sodo Park venue. Once again, Hearts & Wine promises to be a festive evening of fun, fellowship, fundraising, and wine tasting (beer and spirits too!) and a delicious dinner.  Join Rotarians, business owners, community leaders and concerned citizens who are passionate about reducing hunger and food waste and building healthier communities.

During the program, you will learn how hunger is affecting our community from different voices and the many ways Harvest Against Hunger is making connections to get healthy produce to people in need.
