Spice Girl Mel C, ‘brilliant’ comedian Timmy Mallet and 80’s pop rocker Kim Wilde are just some of the people joining in the fun of Adopt a Word for Christmas, an I Can charity initiative.

I Can have teamed with Collins to offer people the opportunity to own part of the English language, the proceeds going to help children with speech, language and communication needs.

From just 20 supporters can adopt a word to keep for a year, and adopters will also receive a gift pack including a certificate and an aftercare advice booklet.

I Can and Collins also have exclusively up for grabs, words that Collins are considering removing from the dictionary because they have fallen out of common use, including niddering, skirr, and fubsy.
