Belk Inc.
will host its fall charity sale on Nov. 7. The department-store chain will distribute the funds raised to local charities, schools and nonprofits throughout the company&euro&trades 16-state market area. In return for a $5 donation, customers receive a ticket admitting them to a sale from 6 a.m. to 10 a.m. The ticket entitles them to discounts ranging from 15 percent to 50 percent on purchases throughout the store. Customers also will receive $5 off their first purchase of $5 or more at the event, and Belk cardholders will receive double rewards points for card purchases. Belk&euro&trades previous charity sale, held May 2, raised more than $5 million for hundreds of nonprofits. Participating local charities will sell tickets in advance of the event. Beginning Oct. 30, tickets may be purchased at Belk stores.
Charlotte-based Belk is the largest privately owned department store company in the United States, with more than 300 stores in 16 Southern states. The company was founded in 1888.
