Boeing Classic Age is no limit for Tom Kite

Kite has certainly proved more than capable at the Boeing Classic, having won the Champions Tour event twice (also winning in 2006) in its
first four years. Seattle Times staff Tom Kite won the Boeing Classic in 2006 and 2008. Count Tom Kite among those who were cheering hard for Tom Watson to win last month’s British Open. But don’t count Kite, the defending champion of the Boeing Classic golf tournament, among those who were surprised that the 59-year-old Watson was in position to win golf’s third major before losing in a playoff to Stewart Cink. “I knew Tom was capable of doing that, because I feel like I can still do that,” said Kite, who is also 59.
Kite has certainly proved more than capable at the Boeing Classic, having won the Champions Tour event twice (also winning in 2006) in its first four years. As the defending champion, he was in Seattle on Monday for a media luncheon, a precursor to this year’s tournament, which begins Aug. 28.
