Grooming Top Golfers 2009: Kuala Lumpur

Grooming top golfers

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia is aiming to nurture young golfers to be world-class players.
The event was an initiative of Tan Sri Muhyiddin Charity Golf (TSMCG) &ndash a charitable organisation set up to improve the living standards of the underprivileged besides other noble causes. Muhyiddin, who is the founder of TSMCG, said the programme that started in 2006 had somehow achieved a level of excellence as one of the players under it had become a professional golfer. “There are many young and talented golfers in the country but they cannot proceed further in this sport because they lacked the financial support. “We will provide scholarships for those chosen for the programme to undergo training at professional golf academies,’’ he said at the annual TSMCG Appreciation Night at a hotel here last night. Muhyiddin also said the spirit of caring, giving and concern for the needy and poor was what made Malaysians great. “Malaysians are generous in charity work. I hope this spirit will continue to blossom,’’ he said.
As of yesterday, the organisation that aims to do charity through golf has raised RM860,000 including RM60,000 collected at the event for Muhyiddin to sing Kau Selalu Di Hatiku (You are always in my heart).
