What do Halsey, Selena Gomez, and Toni Braxton have in common, aside from being in the music industry? All three have lupus, a chronic autoimmune disease that can cause pain and inflammation in various parts of the body. According to the Lupus Foundation of America, at least five million people worldwide have a form of lupus, and most of them cite chronic pain as the most difficult part of the disease. Currently, there is no cure but with proper medical care, most people with lupus can lead a full life. It is for this reason that the Lupus Foundation of America was founded. Their mission is to “improve the quality of life for all people affected by lupus through programs of research, education, support and advocacy.”

On October 19, the Lupus Foundation of America will be having Houston’s Best Dang Fried Chicken Contest 2024. Happening at Karbach Brewing Co., this fundraiser will surely make any fried chicken lover drool. Funds raised from this delicious event will go to the foundation so they can continue to support lupus warriors in their fight.
