When the Insurance Brokers Association of New Brunswick holds its 10th annual charity golf tournament in Bathurst this Wednesday, brokers will be returning to
where the annual event started a decade ago. The tournament, to be held at the Gowan Brae Golf and Country Club with about 100 participants, will be raising money for a charity that is very close to one Bathurst resident’s heart. “The Stan Cassidy Centre for Rehabilitation (SCCR) in Fredericton does wonderful work,” said Lynda LeRoux, who is chairing the golf tournament. “At the moment it is touching my family. My brother was in a snowmobile accident last winter resulting in an amputation. He will soon be a patient at Stan Cassidy.” As tournament chairperson, she gets to choose the tournament that will benefit from the tournament’s fundraising, and she has chosen to raise funds for a new therapeutic park at the centre in support of the work the centre does for people from across New Brunswick and beyond. The first ball of the tournament will be driven by Steven White of Henry White Insurance Ltd. in Bathurst, who is president of the Insurance Brokers Association of New Brunswick. “It’s a good cause. I know that other family members of brokers have been helped by the Stan Cassidy as well,” he said. As for having the brokers’ tournament back in Bathurst, he’s glad to be back in his hometown.
“It was 10 years ago that our first annual golf tournament was held in Bathurst. It feels good to bring it back here a decade later,” said White.
