Just finished writing my story on Jared Jeffries’ charity event at Twin Lakes Recreational Center, and there were a couple of important things he
talked about that I couldn’t work into the narrative. For one thing, Jeffries is enjoying life in Mike D’Antoni’s fast-paced system with the Knicks. Though he only averaged 5.3 points per game last season in 23.4 minutes per game, part of his struggles were because of a broken fibula suffered early in the season. “Last year I was hurt,” Jeffries said. “I had to deal with my injury for the whole year. I think this year’s going to be good. It’s going to be a really good opportunity for me.” Just as any other Indiana luminary will be between now and Bob Knight’s hall of fame induction, Jeffries was asked if he thought Knight would attend the ceremony.
“I think at a certain point, you just have to get past certain things,” he said. “You might be frustrated with a situation, but you always get past certain things. And I think he will. I think he’ll definitely get past that, and I think he’ll take that honor and be proud of it.”
