When justice meets generosity, something powerful happens.
In Kansas City, there’s one elegant evening each year where legal professionals trade courtrooms for celebration halls—not just to honor their peers, but to raise vital support for programs that touch lives far beyond the law books.
The Liberty & Justice Gala, hosted by the Kansas City Metropolitan Bar Foundation (KCMBF), is more than a formal affair. It’s the primary fundraiser fueling programs like the Domestic Violence Alliance, Military Matters, and the Student Law Academy—initiatives that bring legal resources to the people who need them most.
At the heart of the evening is the presentation of the Jack L. Campbell Legacy Award, given to individuals who embody the principles of liberty and justice through outstanding service. This year, Hon. Beth Phillips and Hon. W. Brent Powell will be recognized for their contributions to both the profession and the broader community.
If you’re in or near Kansas City, consider attending this meaningful event. It’s a chance to dine, connect, and be part of a mission that uplifts justice for all.

Campbell Legacy Award in honor of Jack’s significant contributions to our legal community, following his death in 2019.
This year’s Jack L. Campbell Legacy Award recipients are Hon. Beth Phillips and Hon. W. Brent Powell.
