One mid-August Saturday, about 80 women from the St.
Bernard Volunteers for Family and Community gathered for a winter-themed summer celebration. Tables, where crafts were made and lunch was later eaten, were festooned with white crystalline ornaments and stuffed Mr. Bingle dolls. Christmas trees accented the room. The festive setting stood in stark contrast to the more somber mood found elsewhere at St. Bernard Memorial Gardens and Funeral Home, where at the same time as the crafts and food extravaganza, funeral services were being held.
