ON SEPTEMBER 6, the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO) will hold “100% in One Day,” a simultaneous medical, dental, feeding and information-generating mission in
42,000 barangays nationwide. The event is part of PCSO’s 75th anniversary celebration on September 8. With “100% in One Day,” PCSO bids to break into the Guinness Book of World Records by earmarking a huge amount of P700 million for medicines in a health mission that would have the most number of participants. For the undertaking, the charity agency is tapping volunteer doctors, nurses, pharmacists, local government units, companies, civic organizations, church-based groups, NGOs, professional associations and small and medium entrepreneurs. The Philippine Army, Philippine General Hospital, Philippine Long Distance Telephone Company and Smart have also given their commitment to help. “PCSO has been doing monthly medical and dental missions for several years now,” says general manager Rosario C. Uriarte. “But this is the first time we’ll hold it on a large scale in just one day. With 2,243 teams to be scattered nationwide, we aim to treat 1,000 to 1,500 patients in each area.”
In the past monthly missions, a typical group (which treated 1,000 patients in a day) included two doctors, two dentists, one nurse and one pharmacist.
