Prince Phillip has launched a charity campaign inspired by an ancient custom which involved local people walking around the boundaries of their parish.
It is a nine-day walking event to raise funds for Age Concern and other causes. Beating the Bounds was a custom which saw people walking parish boundaries to share knowledge of where they lay. They would also pray for protection and blessings for the land. The event involves 18 walks between Sunday and next weekend around the boundaries of the county, rather than the individual parishes.
The fundraising activity has been organised by the Rotary Club of Pangbourne.
